Gear List

The list below is a general guide line that we have provided based on our many years of experience climbing throughout the wild places of the world. Each trip file contains more specific recommendations of quantity and quality of gear required and we take the time to work with each member to ensure you have appropriate gear for your trip.

The Basics

  • Sleeping mat 1
  • Sleeping Bag rated to -20 to -30°C
  • trekking poles 1pr telescopic
  • Kitbags (2) for Porters/yaks/mules
  • Medium Backpack 1 (40-60 ltrs)
  • Large Backpack 1 (70-80 ltrs)

Technical Climbing Gear (for climbing trips)

  • 1 harness
  • 6-8 carabiners
  • 3-4 locking caribiners
  • 1-2 ascenders (perhaps one ascender and 1 ti-bloc)
  • 1 descender (figure 8)
  • 1 belay device
  • 1 pr crampons (and file and tools)
  • 1-2 Ice axe/tools 1-2 (and spare picks/tools)
  • 4-6 sling
  • 10m spare 6mm cord
  • Double plastic boots
  • 8000m boots (for 8000m climbs) – Millet, One Sport etc
  • 1 hand-held uhf radio for on mountain coms

Mountain clothes

  • Thermal Underwear 1-2 pairs
  • Medium – Heavy weight fleece top
  • Fleece pants
  • Goretex Jacket for wind and rain
  • Goretex pants for wind and rain
  • Balaclava
  • Liner Gloves, thin
  • Insulating liner gloves
  • Over mitts or liner gloves
  • Down jacket, hood recommended
  • Down suit or Down jacket/bottom combo (for 8000m climbs)

Approach clothes

  • Trekking boots
  • light shirts avoid cotton
  • Sun Hat
  • Camp shoes, thongs or Crocs for camp and river crossings
  • socks/underwear, please avoid cotton

Sundries

  • Sunglasses 1-2pr, 1 with side cups
  • Water bottles/bag 3 of 1 liter
  • Head lamp
  • back-up batteries
  • Sunblock zinc 1 tube SPF 30+
  • Sunscreen 1 tube SPF 30+
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • pee bottle
  • ear plugs (for wind, travel, tentmate snoring!)

Eating Utensils

  • Insulated Mug
  • Water purifier, Iodine, Pristine (Filters not recommended)
  • spoon/spork
  • bowl

Repair Gear

  • If you have items which require peculiar repair please ensure you are self sufficient.
  • Boot laces
  • 2 meters of Duct Tape

Medical

  • We carry a comprehensive field medical kit, and our guides are qualified WFR or EMT’s.

You should carry the following:

  1. Aspirin/ Ibuprophin
  2. Anti histamine
  3. Panadol/ Tylenol
  4. Antibiotics: Ciproflaxin, Amoxycilin
  5. Vitamin supplements
  6. Elastic bandage
  7. Band-aides
  8. Blister Pads
  9. Altitude medications: Diamox, Dexamethasone, Niphedipine
